Hot tips for new divers
Scuba Diving Malta
So you have just qualified as an Open Water Diver. Congratulations !! But what next ??
Ask any Instructor worth their salt and they will all tell you the same thing – Just go out and dive..I say the same thing to all my new students. Go out and dive and that is when you really start to learn how it’s done.
The Instructor can show you the basics. Teach you skills that keep you safe and at the same time giving you knowledge and experience. And I think that is the key word here. Experience. There really is no substitute for diving just for divings sake.
Remember on the course where we have to interrupt the dive to practice some skills? But now you are qualified, and if that is as far as you want to go then, in theory at least, you won’t have to interrupt a dive again. But learn from other divers around you. Watch them. Notice how and when they kit up, how they behave in the water, everything about them. And remember, even watching the bad divers can teach you how not to do it.
Go out and enjoy it. With each dive you do, you will get a little more comfortable and relaxed. Try to learn something from every dive. Even the bad ones. Especially the bad ones. I do, we all do.
No two dives are the same. You may have dived the same reef a couple, or even a hundred times, but something, I guarantee will be different.
Of course you could take the plunge and go straight in with your Advanced course. Terrific.. But once you’ve done that, try to do some diving without the distraction of a course. Get some numbers under your belt and you will soon be flying…. Sinking even..
Always try to maintain good buoyancy control. It is the cornerstone of good diving. Keep your equipment trimmed and breath slowly and deeply. And remember that it’s not a race, it’s supposed to be relaxing.
So go out there and dive. You probably have a destination in mind already. But remember to let us know how you got on……..
