Diving In Malta
Scuba Diving Malta

Diving in Malta has to be described as some of the best diving in the Mediterranean. The diving is extremely diverse. Also the diving is suitable for all levels of diver, whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, there is something for everybody.

It is ideal for families too because there is always somewhere to explore when you are not diving or somebody in your family is a non diver. There are hotels to suit all budgets and tastes.

Let’s start with the reefs. The underwater topography is spectacular, if you want drop offs its here, if you want caves it’s here, or just an easy reef dive with lots to see. Malta is made up of soft limestone so over millions of years the sea has created some very unusual formations. Some of the favourite sites are Santa Maria caves on Comino, The Blue Hole on Gozo and the main dive site on Malta, Cirkewwa.

Malta also boast’s seven artificial reefs, these being wrecks that have sunk to attract the marine life. There are also five historical wrecks within the reach of the recreational diver. For the tech divers there are some spectacular Second World War wrecks waiting to be explored. The artificial wrecks include the Um El Faroud and the MV Rozi. If you want history then it’s got to be HMS Maori or the X127 X-lighter.

The diving on Malta is moving more towards boat diving, so it is even easier to get to your chosen dive site. Even diving from shore is easy as new ladders at entries and exits have been installed to make life as easy as possible getting in and out of the water.

Learning to dive on Malta is also very easy as there is no real tidal difference to speak of and virtually no currents, and the water is crystal clear, 30/40 meter visibility is not uncommon. And of course the water is warm. The water temperature range’s from 15 degrees in the winter to 27 degrees in the height of summer.

So as you can see Malta has a lot to offer the diver, and if your family does not dive there is always something for them to do too. www.h2odivers.com
